The Boxted Methodist Silver Band is a traditional brass band based in Boxted, Colchester. Having survived the great conflicts of the 20th Century, the loss of its rehearsal space and the Covid-19 crisis, we are the last so-named Methodist Band in the country. In 2023 we celebrated our 125th Birthday!
The Band has mixed membership of both church-goers and non church-goers who all enjoy meeting together to make music. We rehearse weekly 7.30 - 9pm on Wednesdays, at Boxted School, Carters Hill, CO4 5YN.
The band rehearses a mixed program of brass band favourites, modern pieces and hymn tunes. Feel free to come and listen to a rehearsal or concert, or you can hear us play online. For upcoming dates, please see below or use our calendar.
Until July 2019, the band led a service on the first Sunday of the month in the local chapel. The chapel is now closed but the band continues to support the surrounding villages in regular worship. If you would like the band to come and play at a service at your church then please contact us.
Our ages range from 10 years old to over 90, with length of service varying from new faces who have joined in the past couple of months to those who have been members for a lifetime. See our players list for more information. We are always looking for more musicians to come and share our enjoyment of playing together. Take a look at our vacancies or just get in touch if you'd like to try playing a brass instrument.
